San Diego Superior Court Judge Keri G. Katz Retires

The Honorable Keri G. Katz recently completed her last day on the Superior Court bench, after providing dedicated service to the San Diego legal community for over 37 years. Judge Katz began her legal career in 1987 as a deputy city attorney with the San Diego City Attorney’s Office. Since then, she has enjoyed every single day working on behalf of San Diegans as an attorney, superior court commissioner, and judge.

San Diego Superior Court to Offer In-Person Assistance for Small Claims Litigants

Effective March 12, the San Diego Superior Court’s Small Claims Legal Advisory (SCLA) will resume in-person assistance for small claims litigants to explain court procedures and help with properly completing court forms in a new clinic space at the Hall of Justice.

The Honorable Patricia Garcia recently completed 24 years on the San Diego Superior Court bench, serving as a Superior Court judge since her appointment in 2003, and as a Family Court commissioner from 2000-2003.

Torrey Pines High School Wins 18th Annual San Diego County High School Mock Trial Competition

Torrey Pines High School’s Mock Trial team topped 37 other San Diego County high school teams to win the annual legal competition. The San Diego County Mock Trial program provides high school students with the opportunity to experience the legal field in courtrooms rather than classrooms. The student teams take on the roles of lawyers and witnesses facing off on a hypothetical case in front of actual state and federal judges.

“Youth in Court Day” Returns to North County Courthouse

The San Diego Superior Court’s North County Courthouse will host 750 students for Youth in Court Day to talk about modern issues and their legal consequences. Following a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular event returns for its 20th edition on Friday, March 1, 2024. The event is sponsored by the North County Division of the San Diego Superior Court in conjunction with the North County Bar Association and The Lawyer Referral Service.

San Diego Superior Court to Host Virtual Town Hall on the Child and Family Well-Being Department

The San Diego Superior Court will host the third installment of its Juvenile Court-focused virtual town hall webinar series on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Executives from the Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB) Department within the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) will discuss the new CFWB and resources, supports, and services offered to children and families. By focusing on equity, prevention, and supporting working families, CFWB seeks to provide families with the support they need before foster care becomes a necessary intervention.

San Diego Superior Court Announces Planned Maintenance of Odyssey Case Management System - Friday, Jan. 26 - Sunday, Jan. 28

January 24, 2024

The San Diego Superior Court's Odyssey case management system (Family & Small Claims ROA; Odyssey e-Filing, Small Claims & Unlawful Detainer Exhibit Upload applications) will not be available due to maintenance beginning Friday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m.

The court's main website and other applications are not affected by this maintenance.

San Diego Superior Court Looking for New Civil Grand Jury Applicants

The San Diego Superior Court is now seeking dedicated residents with sound judgment from throughout the county to serve on the 2024-2025 San Diego County Civil Grand Jury. The Civil Grand Jury investigates citizen complaints and performs its traditional function as a “watchdog” over government agencies. It does not conduct criminal investigations.

Juvenile Justice Commission Seeks Applicants

The San Diego Superior Court is seeking applicants to serve on the San Diego County Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC). The Commission is a state-mandated, court-appointed citizens’ commission. Its primary purpose is to annually inspect all publicly administered juvenile institutions and any jail lockup within the County that is used for the confinement of any minor for more than 24 hours.

The Honorable Harry L. Powazek recently completed his last day on the San Diego Superior Court bench, ending a 28-year stint as a judicial officer.

After having served as a Superior Court commissioner in Family Court from 1995-2007, Judge Powazek was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to become a Superior Court judge in 2007.
