 | Jury Duty General Information
Length Of Service
When you appear for jury service you should have ten consecutive work days available for service.
Beginning January 3, 2000, all San Diego court locations began using the One Day/One Trial term of jury service. You will report in person for one day. You may be selected to be on a case of any length. You must complete the case. If you are not selected for a case on that day, your service will be complete.
Postponements
You can ask to have your jury service postponed by calling (619) 450-5757. We will postpone your service once for any reason.
To Be Excused
State law allows jurors to be excused if they have served within the last year. If you are seeking to be excused for any reason, you must complete the REQUEST FOR EXCUSE section on the Summons and mail it using the enclosed envelope. The request for excuse must be clear as to why a postponement to a later date will not solve the problem. There is no statutory exemption by occupation. THOSE EXCUSED WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED.

How Did We Get Your Name ?
- We get our names from the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Registrar of Voters.
- If you spelled your name differently, you may receive two summons within a one-year period.
- If the information at the Department of Motor Vehicles or the Registrar of Voters is not up-to-date, you may receive additional summons.
- If you have received a summons for a deceased relative, please sign the summons and return it in the enclosed envelope. We will attempt to not send further summons. However, if the name of a deceased remains on either of the two source lists you may receive additional summons. The only way to ensure that this does not continue is to contact those agencies and have the name removed from their lists.
