Family Law Facilitator's Self-Help Center

The Family Law Facilitators assist self-represented individuals in family law matters by explaining court procedures and helping fill out court forms.

What services are available?

  • Assistance in choosing and completing forms for Family Law actions
  • Information on the following court matters:
    • Child custody or visitation
    • Child and spousal support
    • Parentage Actions
    • Petitions for divorce, legal separation or nullity
    • Proofs of service
    • Modifications to existing orders
    • Fee waiver application
    • Response to a court action
    • Findings and orders after hearings


Our Mission

The Family Law Facilitator's Self-Help Center is dedicated to helping unrepresented litigants through:

  • Better understanding of family law procedures
  • Increased access to the family law courts
  • Quicker resolution of family law matters


What Can I Expect?

When you visit the Family Law Facilitator's Self-Help Center, you will fill out an intake form describing the issue you want to address. A staff person will review your request and direct you to the best resource to answer your questions.

If you need more specialized services, someone will sit down with you and provide procedural assistance, an understanding of the system, and guidance on completing the forms.


What Should I Bring with Me?

  • A copy of all court documents relating to your case. Your papers should be organized by date, with the oldest paperwork on the bottom and the newest on the top.
  • Paycheck stubs for the last two months 
  • Your latest tax return
  • Other income and expense information
  • Proof of disability, if you are disabled
  • Filing fees, if you don't qualify for a fee waiver

Assistance at no cost is provided on a first come, first served basis.
Sign-ins are limited and sessions fill up quickly. Come early and be prepared to wait.

                                      East County (El Cajon)

                                        English: Fridays 8:00 a.m. to noon

                                      North County (Vista)

                                        English: Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to noon

                                      South County (Chula Vista)

                                        English/Spanish: Alternating Wednesdays 8:00 a.m. to noon

 

Space is limited at all locations.
Please bring your Superior Court case number(s), your last four paycheck stubs, last year's income tax filing, and copies of any court orders.
Interpreters are NOT provided.
