Court location at the Otay border crossing is closing Feb 13, 2004.

Effective Friday, February 13, 2004, the San Diego Superior Court, South County Division will no longer staff a court location at the Otay border crossing. This decision was made jointly by the Hon. John S. Einhorn, Presiding Judge and Mr. Stephen V. Love, Executive Officer.

Pursuant to California Rule of Court 6.620, the public was provided the required notice regarding the possible closure and an opportunity to comment. The public comment period commenced on January 14, 2004 and ended on Monday, February 9, 2004. The Court received three comments summarized as follows:

It is convenient for truckers who cross from Mexico into the United States to be able to pay tickets and/or present proof of correction at the border crossing as opposed to driving to the South County location in Chula Vista.
Due to budgetary constraints, the volume of transactions and collections do not justify continuing to support the Otay border crossing location.
